Famed throughout the world and considered one of the most prestigious neighborhoods in San Diego County, homes and views in the community of La Jolla tend to rival the best in the nation. Ideally situated, La Jolla is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west and Interstate 5 in the east, and rises gradually from Turquoise Street in the south into hillsides and ravines in the north. This incline provides many homes with unparalleled views of the ocean, and you will find exceptional estates built on bluffs high over the ocean to maximize the landscape.

La Jolla Education
Education in La Jolla is taken seriously and offers some of the best academic opportunities around. Served by the San Diego School District, local schools post scores in the 80th and 90th percentiles on statewide rankings. The school district and university work together on various programs, and recently opened a charter school at the university. La Jolla High and Muirlands Middle schools field special science programs that have won honors in state and national contests, and the local high school often wins the county academic decathlon. For adult education, La Jolla is home to the University of California, San Diego, the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, the Salk Institute and other research facilities. As a result, La Jolla has become a sanctuary for intellectuals, art enthusiasts, Nobel prize winners, and other scholarly individuals one would expect in university villages.

La Jolla Housing
Although La Jolla is renowned for homes like those mentioned above, more modest and conventional residences such as three bedroom/two bath houses, condos, and apartments are also common. With a beautiful setting, clean streets, and well-maintained houses, it seems that home owners and new residents are attracted in the end by the excellent location and ambiance.

La Jolla Recreation
Community and recreational activities flourish here, thanks again to a great location on the coast as well as near the university and other institutions. Dance, exhibits, talks, and numerous other events and activities are offered by the university (in 1994, the university opened a large sports complex that does double duty as a concert hall). The La Jolla Playhouse (founded with help of Gregory Peck) is famous for its quality productions, and events like concerts in the park and the La Jolla Festival of Arts prove the community to be socially active, as well as proactive: La Jolla usually has the highest voter turnout in city council elections. Four large inland parks as well as parks along the beaches and even an underwater park provide facilities for almost any sport imaginable. Coffee shops, restaurants, art galleries, antique stores, quaint boutiques, and ice cream parlors can be found on and around Prospect and Girard streets (the coastal shopping zone), and a regional mall (with an ice skating rink) is just a few minutes away off of Interstate 5.
